Some varieties of apple trees bear fruit on short spurs, and others like to blossom at the tips of branches, each type requiring different methods of pruning and training. Knowing which type you have and pruning correctly is critical to avoid inadvertently preventing a tree from producing apples. We will focus this session on helping you learn which varieties are spur or tip bearers, how to recognize which types your trees are, and how to prune an apple tree for good fruit production based on spur or tip bearing characteristics. We will also discuss summer pruning of pears, plums and other fruit in response to audience interest.
