Cider Guild: Amateur Cider Cup Tasting + Pressing

Who’s got late apples that still need pressing‽

Sunday Nov. 9th we’ll be hosting a peer judged cider cup tasting and apple pressing. Bring a bottle or two of your home brew and we’ll do a blind tasting and judging. Snacks to share are welcome!

We’ll also be running the cider press for all those that have late season apples to press. This time we’ll try 30 minute time slots, should be able to get thru 100-150lbs of apples, or 5 to 10⁺ gallons of cider, depending on how juicy those apples are. If you’d like a pressing slot, include a note in the registration form linked below. If you have a time preference, please note that as well and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Here’s what to expect for pressing:

  • 30m is usually enough time to press ~100-150 lbs of apples, yielding 5-10⁺ gallons of juice.

  • No groundfall apples will be accepted - no exceptions!

  • Please bring vessels to put your juice in - always best to overestimate!

  • Please also bring buckets, bins or bags to bring your post pressing pomace home with you.

  • Having your apples as ready to press as possible is welcome, especially if we’ve got a lot of folks that want to get in on pressing. If you want to wash your apples, please wash them at home or please arrive early to wash them ahead of your time slot. We will have rinsing bins available.

  • We’ll do our best to get you in your designated time slot, but we’ll definitely get you your 30 minutes!

Here’s what to expect for tasting:

  • We’ll start the tasting closer to 2pm

  • All entries will be anonymous (until the end!)

  • There will be tasting guides to rate the brews

Thanks for working together club!

Volunteers welcome!

Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM

Location: Wideawake Barn at Brad & Erin’s place
The barn is enclosed, heated and well-lit!
We’ll have the press covered and setup outside, so dress warm if you’re pressing!
